5 Ways to Burn Some Calories While Traveling as a B2B Sales Consultant

As a B2B sales consultant who travels the globe helping sellers improve sales performance it is easy to pack on the pounds. Here are five tips on ways to burn some calories when you are on the road:

1. Take the steps!

When given the option to take an elevator, escalator or steps, always take the steps. A great way to end a busy day is take the steps instead of the elevator even if your room is on the fifteenth floor!

2. Walk up the escalator!

If stairs are not an option and an escalator is, walk up the escalator instead of taking the free ride. Airports like Atlanta and Detroit have plenty of escalators.

3. Don’t take the train!

When making your way through airports avoid taking trains from terminal to terminal—walk instead. If you have a tight connection this might not be feasible, however, if you have an hour between flights a twenty minute walk is a better option than a five minute walk and a five minute train ride.

4. Carry don’t roll!

When you are walking your way through an airport carry your roller bag instead of rolling it. You’ll be surprised how easily you can increase your heart rate when you carry a twenty five pound bag during a twenty minute walk especially if you top it off by walking up the escalator to your next terminal.

5. Take a break and take a walk!

I’m a fan of building in an hour lunch break when delivering a day long onsite workshop. After you eat some lunch take a thirty minute walk. Feel free to invite some of the workshop participants with you!

Don’t ignore these opportunities to get your heart rate up and burn some calories on a daily basis. Your heart and waistline will be glad you did!
